I've been really into pumpkins this fall, and I'm not just talking about eating them (although I have eaten more than my fair share of pumpkin seeds, pumpkin loaf, and these pumpkin madeleines). Since making this pumpkin and egg white facial mask last year, I've been looking for more ways to incorporate pumpkin into DIY beauty treatments and I came up with this pumpkin pie sugar scrub. It's less grainy than other sugar scrubs--the true star is the nutrient-dense pumpkin (it's packed with vitamins and antioxidants) and, of course, the delicious pumpkin pie smell--so it gently exfoliates while leaving skin supple and smelling heavenly. I love to use it on my hands and have found that it also makes a great treatment for my legs before shaving.
Pumpkin Pie Sugar Scrub
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
½ cup pumpkin, puréed (you can use canned but make sure it's pure pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling)
3 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon ground cloves
Mix all ingredients until well combined; double or triple as needed. Scoop into a sealable container or decorative jar and use as often as desired for soft, touchable, yummy skin. Since the pumpkin is perishable, refrigerate whatever you don't use right away, and be sure to enjoy the scrub within 2 weeks.
